Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur, has officially launched the Shama Agriculture Improvement Program, a comprehensive initiative aimed at boosting farming activities and transforming the agricultural sector in the Shama Constituency.
Speaking at the event, the Minister described the program as “a strategic move to empower local farmers and improve agricultural productivity across the municipality.”
She emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening food systems and ensuring farmers have the tools and resources needed to thrive.
As part of the initiative, the Minister, in partnership with the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paul Otis Dentu, presented key farming equipment and supplies to support local agriculture. The donation included a combine harvester, a tractor, 20 motorized spraying machines, 100 bags of fertilizer, and 700 pairs of Wellington boots.

To ensure the sustainability and proper management of the donated machinery, a seven-member committee was inaugurated to oversee their operations and maintenance.
The Minister noted that this committee “will play a critical role in safeguarding these investments and ensuring they serve the intended purpose.”
The launch event brought together a range of stakeholders, including the National Chairman of the Peasant Farmers Association, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, traditional authorities, Shama Constituency NDC executives, and assembly members, all of whom pledged their support for the program’s goals.
