A fatal accident at New Ayaase in the Adansi-Fomena District on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 22, has claimed eight lives.
The crash involved a Sprinter van, a Toyota Corolla, and a long bus.
The tragic incident unfolded when a Sprinter bus en route from Kumasi to Fosu made a risky overtaking attempt of a Toyota Corolla headed toward Fomena.
During the attempt, it collided head-on with a long bus approaching from Kumasi, causing the Corolla to lose control and swerve off the road.
According to Isaac Adjei, Assembly Member for the Fomena East Electoral Area, the collision was so violent that the Sprinter van was torn in two, with one half flipping off the road.
“Six victims died on the spot, while two others died at the hospital,” he said in an interview with Citi News.
Adjei underscored the urgent need for speed control measures, such as ramps, to help reduce reckless driving in the area and prevent future tragedies.
