Family of a first-year student at Aburi Girls Senior High School in the Eastern Region is considering legal action against the school amidst allegations of negligence leading to the tragic death of their daughter. The 15-year-old student passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, after suffering from severe stomach pains.

According to sources within the school, it is alleged that the student was denied necessary medical attention by the school nurse, who reportedly accused her of feigning illness. Unfortunately, by the time she was eventually rushed to the hospital, it was too late, and she had already passed away.

The body of the deceased student has been transferred to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital pending autopsy, while the police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her untimely demise.

Miss Danso, an aunt of the deceased, expressed the family's anguish in an interview with Kasapa News, stating that they would pursue legal action against the school if it is found responsible for their daughter's death. She emphasized that the school authorities should have ensured that the sick girl received immediate medical attention, especially given the close proximity of the hospital to the school premises.

"We’ll sue the school if after investigation it emerges that the school was guilty leading to our daughter’s death," Miss Danso asserted. "Because, the Heads in the school should have ensured the sick girl was taken to the hospital for treatment if the school’s sick bay could not take care of her."

The family's determination to seek justice highlights the seriousness of the situation and the need for accountability within educational institutions. They argue that the school had a duty of care to their daughter, and any failure to fulfill this obligation resulted in tragic consequences.
