The former Director of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, will spend the next seven working days in custody, following a ruling by the Accra High Court.
The court issued the order as his bail conditions have not yet been satisfied, granting the Attorney General the necessary window to complete the compilation of witness statements.
During proceedings on April 30, Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine told the court that intelligence gathered suggests Adu-Boahen may have made attempts to influence a prosecution witness.
This revelation prompted the prosecution to push for his remand, citing concerns over potential interference with the judicial process.
However, defense counsel Samuel Atta Akyea firmly pushed back, challenging both the authenticity of the intelligence and the suggestion that his client had the capacity to interfere in such a manner.
Faced with these conflicting accounts, the judge decided to postpone the ruling in order to privately examine the intelligence in question before reaching a conclusion.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ayine also informed the court that Adu-Boahen is under scrutiny in a separate probe involving Ghana Water Limited, adding another layer to the legal pressure he currently faces.
