According to a joint statement from the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the blackout began at around 1:42 p.m. on May 1, when a truck offloading stones at a private construction site inadvertently lifted its bucket into the path of the Nkawkaw–Konongo transmission line.

The collision triggered a major fault, forcing power plants at Aboadze and Anwomaso offline and plunging the Western, Central, and Northern regions, along with parts of Accra, into darkness.

Emergency teams were swiftly dispatched to the affected area to assess the extent of the damage and begin immediate repairs.

"Our engineers have mobilised to the location to repair the damaged transmission line and work is on-going to restore all affected areas by 6pm today," the statement assured. GRIDCo and ECG issued an apology to customers and called for patience as technical teams worked to bring the situation under control.
