Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advised his ‘grandson’ and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), to remain humble and supportive of the flagbearer and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, if they win the December 2024 elections.

Speaking at the grand unveiling of the former Energy Minister at the Kumasi Jubilee Park in the Ashanti Region today, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II urged NAPO to ensure that Dr. Bawumia never regrets choosing him as his running mate.

Don't let Bawumia regret choosing you,” he emphasised twice. “Be humble, listen to him, and do as he says. These are just excerpts of our in-door conversation.

In all humility, work with Bawumia and deliver for me. Be obedient to his orders” Otumfuo stated, highlighting his indoor conversations with him.

“I have spoken with him in chambers, and I have advised him”.

Addressing claims of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh being disrespectful and arrogant, Otumfuo expressed his surprise

stating that, he will defend him on that as that wasn't how he raised him, however, he hopes the Manhyia South MP would prove his accusers wrong by doing what is right.

“There have been rumours following your announcement as Bawumia, NPP's choice that you are arrogant and disrespectful, but then I wonder , because while I trained you I saw nothing of that sort, so then why would people say that.

I will defend you that that isn't who you are, but don't let it be so. And if you serve wholeheartedly we will pray for you and by God's grace everything will work out for us” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia formally informed the National Officers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) about his selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 general elections on July 1st, 20241.

This significant announcement paved the way for NAPO’s official unveiling as Bawumia’s running mate in Kumasi on July 9, 2024.

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) convened on Thursday, July 4, 2024, to deliberate on the nomination of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as the running mate to the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia1.

This crucial meeting resulted in unanimous approval of NAPO’s candidacy, paving the way for his official unveiling as Bawumia’s running mate in Kumasi on July 9, 2024.
