Former Chief of Army Staff and Chairman for the Veteran Administration Ghana (VAG), Major General Clayton Yaachie (Rtd), has urged MATS to resist external influences in cadet admissions and training.
“This is where the umbilical cord of every military officer is cut…the officers you are training will come and serve under you so, let’s be honest with ourselves…don’t allow influences outside of the Military to influence your decisions either to commission or not to commission,” he said.

During the visit of a five-member delegation from the Veterans Association and Defence Ministry of South Sudan, the world's youngest nation, Major General Clayton Yaachie (Rtd) emphasized at the Ghana Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS) not to allow external influences to dictate the admissions, training, and graduation of Officer cadets.
The delegation's four-day visit, aimed at learning from the Ghanaian Veteran Administration and military system and exchanging knowledge and experiences, was led by Lt. General Panek Biar Chol Ajak, the Managing Director of the South Veterans Fund.
“We have a lot in common that is why we selected Ghana as the best country to visit and learn from you,” he said.
Lieutenant General Bia Atem Ajang, the leader of the South Sudanese Delegation and Undersecretary of Veteran Affairs, expressed in his address to Ghana's Deputy Minister of Defence, Kofi Amankwah Manu, that they chose Ghana as a learning partner because it is considered a "big brother" with extensive experience and a reputable record in democracy and good governance.
During their visit, the delegation toured MATS to gain insight into its operations.
Capt. Ben Edmund Duah (Rtd), Executive Director for Veterans Administration Ghana, praised the South Sudanese Veterans for their foresight in seeking knowledge and experience from Ghana.
