The recall, announced in a formal directive on Tuesday, January 14, President John Mahama, through his Executive Secretary, noted that it is aimed at preventing misuse, safeguarding the nation's reputation, and upholding the integrity of diplomatic engagements in line with both national and international standards.To ensure the smooth execution of the recall, the Ministry has been tasked with specific steps.

First, a public notice will be issued to inform all holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued under the previous administration to return them for verification and, where applicable, re-issuance.Secondly, a compliance deadline has been set, requiring all affected individuals to submit their documents by January 24, 2025. This timeline is intended to provide sufficient opportunity for all concerned to meet the requirements.

A comprehensive verification process will be conducted once the passports are returned. This review will ensure that the documents meet the current eligibility criteria for such official travel permits.The directive emphasizes the importance of cooperation to maintain the credibility and efficiency of the country’s passport system.
