2 mins readAn Accra High Court judge has expressed concern over the low number of jurors available for the murder trial involving Ben Lord Ababio, a self-styled traditional ruler, and another individual. The judge, Justice Mrs. Kizita Naa Koowah Quarshie, instructed the court's Registrar to gather more jurors so the trial could begin.When the case was called on Tuesday, only nine potential jurors showed up.

The accused persons had the option to choose jurors, with the right to reject some if necessary.The court has postponed the trial until December 18, 2024.Ben Lord Ababio, also known as Nana Barima, and Nana Kofi Amo Gyekye, also known as Nana Fiifi, are facing trial for their involvement in a land dispute that allegedly led to the death of Lance Corporal Michael Danso of the Ghana Armed Forces.

accomplices, Oteng and Salisu, are reportedly still at large.Ababio and Gyekye are charged with conspiracy, with Ababio also facing a murder charge. Ababio remains in custody, while Gyekye is on bail of one million Ghana cedis, with two sureties, and must deposit his passport with the court.

On April 30, 2024, Lance Corporal Michael Danso, along with two colleagues, drove to the Millennium City Police Station in a Toyota RAV4 to report a trespassing incident on land owned by one of the officers, Lance Corporal Abdul Omar Rahman. Ababio showed up at the police station and shot and killed Danso instantly.Ababio was arrested by the police, and further investigations led to the arrest of Gyekye.
