1 min readDefence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has revealed that engineers from the Ghana Armed Forces have visited Asuokow in the Eastern Region to assess the difficulties schoolchildren face when crossing a dangerous water body to attend school.

This follows President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to urgently resolve the issue.

In a Facebook post on Monday, February 10, Dr. Omane Boamah reassured the public that the government is fully committed to finding a permanent solution.

“Engineers of the Ghana Armed Forces have already visited Asuokow community (where young schoolchildren have to cross this water body to access school) in the Eastern Region,” he stated.

The minister reiterated the government’s dedication to resolving the issue, emphasising that steps are being taken to ensure the safety of the children and the entire community.

“As President John Dramani Mahama assured Ghanaians, we're working to permanently and urgently resolve the challenge the people and the schoolchildren of Asuokow are facing,” he added.

The military engineers' visit is the first step toward creating a safer way for schoolchildren to travel, showing the government's dedication to making education more accessible and ensuring the safety of vulnerable communities.
