Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two watchmen of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School following an alleged sexual assault involving a student of the school.
The two watchmen have also been arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigation as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a statement issued by the GES and signed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service said it had received a “disturbing report” of the alleged assault involving the student and the two watchmen.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has received a disturbing report of an alleged sexual assault involving a student of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School, perpetrated by two watchmen of the school,” the statement said.

According to the GES, preliminary information indicates that the student is a special needs student who is on medication and had reportedly suffered a relapse on the day of the incident.
The Service said the student required medical attention at the time, and it was during this period the culprits allegedly assaulted her.
Following the report, the two watchmen were arrested and handed over to the Police to assist with investigations. The GES has also interdicted both individuals with immediate effect.
“Thorough investigations into the matter are currently ongoing. Based on the outcome of the investigations, Management will apply the appropriate sanctions in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana,” the statement added.
The GES has further cautioned all staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ensure the safety, dignity and wellbeing of students under their care.
“Management further cautions that the Service will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety and wellbeing of students,” it stated.
The Service assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.
