2 mins readSpokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 election campaign, Miracles Denis Aboagye, has claimed that the Vice President lost the election due to circumstances beyond his control, not because of his own actions.Mr. Aboagye explained that many people believe Dr. Bawumia was a victim of the situation and not unfit for leadership.

This has led to widespread sympathy for the Vice President following last week’s election results.“One of the things that are quite clear in these conversations is that everybody seems to sympathise with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a candidate who is a victim of circumstances,” he said.Aboagye explained, “It’s as if sins were brought upon him, which he had no control over, at a time when he was pursuing his own mission.

”He added that Dr Bawumia now has a responsibility to reach out to the masses and explain the circumstances surrounding his defeat in the 2024 election.“He has a responsibility at this point to reach out to these people and say, 'I understand you have punished me for these things, but shall we have a conversation?

the future?”.Despite the disastrous defeat in Saturday’s polls, Aboagye stated that Dr Bawumia’s qualities remain unquestionable, saying, “His capability, his ability, his level of innovation, and the fact that he is the leader this country needs are not in doubt. But sometimes you can find yourself in the right place at the wrong time," he noted.

“He is essentially being punished for a lot of sins he did not commit,” he emphasised regarding the Vice President's defeat.In last week’s election, Dr. Bawumia of the NPP received 4,657,304 votes out of 11,191,422 valid votes cast, while Mr. John Mahama of the NDC won with 6,328,397 votes, achieving a decisive victory.

Former President John Mahama, now President-elect, and his team have started the transition process to prepare for his swearing-in on January 7, 2025, as the Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administrations come to an end.
