Chiefs and elders of the Bassare Traditional Area have officially announced the passing of Obore Gariba Yankosor II, the Paramount Chief of the area.

In a news release copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, they expressed their sadness, stating, “We, the chiefs of the Tatale Traditional Area, Council of Elders of the Nakpale Bore Palace, and Elders of the family of the late Paramount Chief, are saddened to announce the demise of the late Paramount Chief of Tatale Traditional Area, Obore Gariba Yankosor II, which occurred at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) after a short illness.

"The release continued, "The late Obore Gariba Yankosor II was born to his late parents Elder Gariba Tignanaba and Madam Tiriwah Gariba. He was 81 years of age.""He was enskinned by the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi in October 2001 and reigned as the Paramount Chief for 23 years."It is reported that he passed away on March 21, 2024.

The late chief was described as a father figure for all ethnic groups in the area, known for his commitment to peace and unity. He is survived by a wife and three adult children. He won three peace awards for the Tatale Traditional Area in the Tatale/Sanguli District of the Northern Region."The late Obore Gariba Yankosor II was a member of the Dagbon Traditional Council, the Northern Region House of Chiefs, and the National House of Chiefs.

He was loved by the Ya-Na Abukari II, Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, because of his honesty, hard work, and love for peace.""Preparations are underway for his burial and the installation of his regent."
