Barcelona defender Mapi Leon has received a two-game suspension from Liga F following an incident involving Espanyol player Daniela Caracas during the Catalan derby in February, according to a report by the BBC on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on February 10, just 15 minutes into the match. Leon was accused of "violating Caracas' intimacy" after allegedly touching her inappropriately in the groin area while speaking to her as they prepared for a set piece.
Espanyol publicly condemned Leon's behaviour, expressing their "total discontent and condemnation" and offering full support to the Colombian defender.
Liga F has not yet responded to Reuters’ request for comment.
Leon, 29, has denied any wrongdoing, stating there was “no contact with her private parts.”
"At no time did I, nor was it my intention, infringe upon the intimacy of my fellow professional Daniela Caracas," she said.
Leon has already missed one match, Barcelona’s recent game against Atletico Madrid, and will also sit out their upcoming league clash with Sevilla.
Barcelona’s appeal to overturn the ban was unsuccessful. The team currently leads the league, four points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid.
