2 mins readThe traditional leaders of Asogli have removed Togbe Afiatsoa III, the chief of Ho-Bankoe, from his position because they say he disrespected his superiors and behaved poorly.

The decision came from the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV. On April 17, 2025, the chiefs and elders gathered at the Asogli Traditional Council in Ho to perform traditional rites like pouring libation and slaughtering a ram to inform the gods about their decision.

With this ceremony, Togbe Afiatsoa III is no longer recognized as a chief in Asogli. He has been stripped of his stool name and will now be called by his birth name, Frederick Yao Akordor.

Speaking to journalists, Togbe Adu Bobi IV, a leader from the Bake Clan of Ho Bankoe, said they took this step because Mr. Akordor became arrogant after he was made chief in June 2023. He even acted like Togbe Afede XIV was supposed to report to him and ask for permission before doing anything.

“He [Mr Akordor] was the next in command in Ho Bankoe. If Togbe Afede is not there as the Afiatsoa or the Mankrado, he acts on Togbe’s behalf. But he assumed himself as the overlord with the analogy that because Makrado means Dutor in Ewe, he is assuming that the whole town [Bankoe] belongs to him.
5
“So, he is assuming that the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, is under him, so that anything he does, Togbe should seek clearance from him before he goes out to perform his duties. This has never happened before,” he stressed.
6
He explained that, according to Asogli tradition, whenever chiefs and elders kill an animal during a customary ceremony, the waist portion is given to Togbe Afede to show that he is the highest-ranking chief in the Asogli State.

8
He also said the removed chief, Mr. Akordor, went to the media to say bad things about Togbe Afede, twisting the truth about the Asogli people's culture and leadership history.
9
He added that Mr. Akordor refused to listen to advice from his elders and didn’t show up when he was called several times to help settle the matter.
10
“So it has reached a point where Togbe said that enough is enough. We have invited him so many times to sit as father and child to talk over issues, but he thinks he has a case that he wants the world to hear. Instead of coming down to allow Togbe and his elders to settle this matter amicably in the room, he went out with his.
11
“So, this morning Togbe has to perform his duty as the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, that he can no longer work with the former Afiatsoa, who is now called by his private name, Frederick Yao Akordor”, he concluded.
