1 min readThe vendor linked to the suspected contaminated asana drink that left 22 students in Prampram hospitalised is assisting with ongoing investigations, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has disclosed.

In a post shared on X, the lawmaker said he followed up on the incident after seeing the “disturbing news item about the medical scare” involving pupils from Prampram D/A Basic ‘B’ and Methodist Freeman Basic School.

“A total of 22 children were affected and treated with 21 discharged for further observation and 1 child admitted overnight as a precautionary measure,” he wrote.

Mr. George added that he had engaged both the Education Directorate and the Medical Director of the Prampram Polyclinic to get first-hand information.

He confirmed that samples of the suspected drink had been sent to the laboratory to determine the exact cause of the health scare.

“I wish the children speedy recovery and thank the hospital for their speedy intervention,” he stated, also commending the staff at the polyclinic for their professionalism.

The students were rushed to the hospital on Monday, April 14, after collapsing during school hours. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as several children were seen running frantically before collapsing.
