In a statement released by the company, it was revealed that over 98% of Anglogold shareholders supported this transition, surpassing the required majority threshold of at least 75%. The vote took place during a virtual meeting held on Friday.

This reorganization strategy also encompasses the relocation of Anglogold's corporate headquarters from Johannesburg to London.

AngloGold Ashanti, with roots dating back to the establishment of its forerunner by industrialist Ernest Oppenheimer a century ago, completed the divestment of its South African mines in 2020.

The challenging geological conditions associated with some of the world's deepest gold deposits had made mining in South Africa increasingly difficult and costly. Consequently, the company redirected its focus towards more lucrative mining operations in countries such as Ghana, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Australia, and the Americas.

Alberto Calderon, the CEO of Anglogold, has emphasized that a primary listing in New York would provide the company with access to the largest pool of gold capital in the world.
