1 min readThe New Patriotic Party (NPP) has noted that there was nothing it could have done to prevent former presidential candidate, John Alan Kyerematen from resigning from the party.The party's General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, during a press conference held on Tuesday, September 26, explained that Mr Kyerematen was resolved to leave the party owing to his decision to announce such an important step via a press conference.

According to Mr Frimpong Kodua, the former Trade Minister did not accord the party due respect by giving prior notice of his resignation before holding a press briefing in Accra on Monday.He said: "The disappointing part is the mode in which he decided to resign from the party, which was through a press conference without prior notice to the party.

The party wants to believe that by his decision to hold a press conference to resign without first informing the leadership of the party suggests that he made a premeditated and irrevocable decision to resign from the party."Mr Kyerematen announced his resignation on September 25, when he addressed the country during a press conference at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra today, September 25, 2023.

He noted that he no longer recognizes the NPP, which has been unfair to himself and his supporters, as its current aims and agenda no longer reflect what the founding fathers had hoped to achieve.Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party says it has accepted Mr Kyerematen's resignation from the party.
