Peter Appiahene's appointment has been criticised as it is alleged that he sides with the ruling party, New Patriotic Party to Mr Amidu, this would not have happened if Ghanaians had held government to account over its past actions.

He noted that due to this cowardice, President Akufo-Addo and his government have been empowered to engage in actions that are contrary to the country's Akufo-Addo would not have abused the spirit of Chapter Seven (7) of the 1992 Constitution on the sanctity of the right to vote and the Electoral Commission if We the People had not in the past five and half years, condoned the Government’s several abuses of power and impunity," he said.

The former Special Prosecutor holds the assertion that "Autocrats are empowered and emboldened by the conviction that their citizens are so cowardly or passive that they may only feebly criticize government policies and decisions made in abuse of power and with impunity.
