2 mins readAttorney General (AG), Godfred Yeboah Dame, has reportedly sent a letter to the Speaker of Parliament requesting the declaration of the Assin North seat as vacant following a recent judgment by the Supreme Court.The Supreme Court ruled that James Gyakye Quayson, the embattled Member of Parliament for Assin North, did not renounce his Canadian citizenship when he filed his nomination forms for the elections.

As a result, the court ordered the removal of his name from the parliamentary records.As a consequence, a by-election will need to be conducted to fill the vacant Assin North seat.Minority Leader Dr. Forson disclosed the letter from the AG during the vetting of the Chief Justice Nominee, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
