Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, has given his assurance that the military officer suspected of shooting civilians at Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region will be arrested.

The incident, which led to the death of one person and left three others injured, has sparked outrage across the country, with many demanding justice.

Speaking during a visit to the affected community on Friday, April 25, DCOP Teye-Cudjoe described the shooting as a criminal offence and pledged that the police would take all necessary steps to bring the offender to justice.

He stressed that investigations would be carried out impartially to ensure fairness.

The shooting reportedly occurred during an encounter between military officers and a group of mourners, reigniting concerns about the use of force by security personnel.

DCOP Teye-Cudjoe cautioned that the actions of one soldier should not be seen as a reflection of the entire Ghana Armed Forces.

He assured residents that the police are committed to conducting a thorough probe and rebuilding public trust.

“We will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrators to justice. Apart from ensuring that justice is served, with the collaboration of the military, we will make sure we bring the culprit to book.

“He is an individual who committed this criminal act, and we will fish him out. We want to assure the people of Nyinahin that we will go all out and make sure that justice is served,” he assured.

The Chief of Nyinahin, Nana Amapene Boateng Twum II, also called on authorities to pursue the matter diligently and ensure that justice prevails.

“We are pleading with the police to look into this issue. The culprit must be punished. We are all under the law; no one is above it. Even if there was provocation, you are not supposed to shoot a person. This case is serious, so I am pleading with the police to investigate and bring the culprit to book,” he pleaded.
