Security agencies have arrested 89 individuals in connection with various offences committed during the 2024 electoral period, as part of efforts to ensure post-election peace and stability across the country.
The arrested suspects include 40 individuals directly linked to acts of vandalism, looting, and destruction of property in some locations nationwide.
In a statement, the security agencies assured the public that all suspects will be put before the court to face justice. They also urged citizens to refrain from engaging in violent activities, warning that perpetrators will face the full force of the law.
"We would like to caution the public to desist from such acts of violence since the perpetrators will be arrested and taken through the due process of the law," the statement emphasized.
To maintain law and order, the security agencies have moved into the post-election security phase and outlined additional measures, including:
Increasing visibility through joint patrols with other security agencies.
Conducting intelligence-led operations to identify and apprehend offenders.
Deploying static security personnel at targeted state facilities.
Establishing a special investigation team to review relevant videos, identify perpetrators, and ensure accountability.
Engaging government officials and stakeholders through outreach programs to promote peace.
The statement further noted, "We would also like to thank the generality of all Ghanaians for their support throughout the process and urge all stakeholders to remain calm as we work to protect the lives and property of everyone."
The security agencies reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the public while preventing further incidents of violence or destruction.
