The tragic passing of a four-year-old boy has plunged the Berekum-Amangoase community into mourning and disbelief.

According to reports, the child, identified only as Nana, is said to have accidentally fallen into an abandoned water-filled ditch near his home, leading to his drowning.

The heartbreaking incident, which took place on the night of Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at approximately 8:00 PM, has sparked widespread concern, with many residents questioning how the young boy was left unattended at that time.

By the next day, Wednesday, February 12, grief-stricken family members and sympathizers had gathered at the boy’s residence to console his devastated parents, who were inconsolable.

Speaking to GNA, Kwaku Ronney, the Assemblyman for the Amangoase Electoral Area in Berekum, confirmed that the police had been alerted. Officers later retrieved the boy’s body from the pit and transported it to the mortuary.

Residents also voiced concerns about the location of the pit, as it is near a popular play area for children. They have urged the Berekum Municipal Assembly to urgently seal it off to prevent future tragedies.
