The Asokwa Circuit Court in Kumasi has ordered the detention of a 22-year-old house help on charges of allegedly murdering an 83-year-old woman in Ayigya, situated in the Oforikrom Municipality. The accused now remains in police custody as investigations into the shocking incident unfold.
Maku Kuame is accused of committing the atrocious act in collaboration with her boyfriend during the early hours of Tuesday, January 2, 2024, while the elderly woman was asleep.
The elderly woman reportedly accused the suspect of pilfering funds sent to her by her children residing abroad.
The plea of Kuame, who was put before the court on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, was not taken and she would reappear before the court presided by Mr Kwaku Baah Frimpong, on January 17, this year.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector O.N Tetteh, prayed the court to remand the suspect to enable the police to continue with the investigations.
