Alhaji Malik Alhassan Yakubu explained, "If you look at the overall voting pattern in the recent election that led to his selection a few days ago, you will see that it extends across the country. If you carefully analyze the situation, even though Ashanti is a major stronghold of the NPP, Dr. Bawumia performed exceptionally well in that region."

He continued, "So this should reassure anyone that there should be no concerns about the fact that Dr. Bawumia will receive a significant number of votes from the regions considered typically Akan, and that voters from those areas might oppose a non-Akan candidate. We have no doubt that he will amass a substantial number of votes in Akan areas and complement them with votes from other regions. We are confident in his success."
