Reflecting on his first year in office, the CEO recounted a personal experience where, in his first month, he received a call from a scammer claiming that he had made a transfer. The fraudster attempted to manipulate him into believing the transaction was legitimate. Rather than hanging up immediately, the CEO decided to keep the scammer on the phone for about 15 minutes, hoping to prevent the fraudster from targeting someone else.

“I decided to keep him on the phone for about 15 minutes, hoping that by doing so, he wouldn’t scam someone else,” the CEO explained, adding that the fraudster eventually hung up when he revealed his true identity as the CEO of MTN.

The encounter, which the CEO described as a reminder to remain vigilant, has fueled MTN's commitment to enhancing its fraud prevention measures. He emphasized, “We are constantly asking ourselves how we can improve. We are applying the same customer-first mentality to tackle these issues and are exploring better solutions for our users.”
