Jamaican megastar Adidja Palmer, known as Vybz Kartel, has urged young people in Jamaica and globally to avoid crime. In a widely shared social media video, the 48-year-old Dancehall icon is seen leaving the Tower Street Adult Correctional Center, where he briefly addressed the gathered press and fans. He emphasized, "Stay out of crime as time spent in prison is a waste of life."
This message was reinforced by Shatta, who posted a video of Vybz Kartel's release, captioning it, "Tell the youth to stay out of crime, it's not worth it, a waste of life, a waste of time, brother."
Vybz Kartel, along with three others, was convicted on March 14, 2014, for the murder of Clive "Lizard" Williams. The prosecution claimed Williams was killed over missing guns and that Kartel had lured him to his home, where he was beaten to death.
However, the UK-based Privy Council later overturned Kartel's conviction due to evidence of juror misconduct. The case was remanded to a three-person court of appeals in Jamaica to decide on a retrial or release.
