1 min readThe Ghanaian gospel music community came together to pay their last respects to the late Rev. George Owusu Mensah, honoring his impact on gospel music.

Rev. Mensah, known for his popular song Matwen Awurade Anim, passed away on November 10, 2024.

To celebrate his life, a Worship and Tribute Night was held, where his son, Kofi Owusu Peprah, moved the audience with an emotional performance of one of his father’s well-loved songs.

His burial took place on Saturday, February 8, at Grace Baptist Church in Kumasi, where family, friends, and loved ones gathered to say their final goodbyes.

The ceremony was attended by some of Ghana’s top gospel musicians, including Joe Mettle, Ohemaa Mercy, Jack Alolome, Piesie Esther, Empress Gifty, and Daughters of Glorious Jesus.

Many clergy members were also present, with Evangelist Akwasi Donkor, Prophet Eric Boahene, and Bishop Victor Osei among those who paid their respects. Representatives from the Ghana Baptist Convention also came to show their support to the family.

Rev. George Owusu Mensah was remembered for his dedication to gospel music and ministry, leaving behind a legacy of faith and inspiration.
