Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has considered hemself the most criticized artiste in Nigeria.
He believes that is the case because he comes from an affluent family.
During the interview on Culture Knock Out podcast, the “Assurance” hitmaker, Davido mentioned that, “I’m the most criticised artiste in Nigeria. I mean, I’m on fire and I’ve been on fire for a while,” he said.
He said in the early days of his career, people were not very much much aware that he was coming from the rich family.
However, that became known to sveral Nigerians after his released three songs.
Davido says that was when he noticed Nigerians began to hate on him.
“Over time, people started hating me because my dad is rich. But I keep on dropping good music, and it keeps working out,” the musician stated.
Davido is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and record producer who rose to fame with his 2011 hit "Dami Duro" and has since become a leading figure in Afrobeats music.
He has released several albums, including Omo Olowo in 2021, A Good Time in 2019, A Better Time in 2020, Timeless in 2023, and 5ive in 2025, and is known for global hits like "Fall," which became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history.
Beyond music, Davido is recognized for his philanthropic efforts, founding the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) Foundation to support education, health and youth empowerment in Nigeria.
