“We expect the minister to influence the education budget to ensure that at least 20% of the public budget is allocated to education. This allocation would form the foundation for delivering on the 140 education promises in the NDC manifesto, with significant progress expected within the first year,” the statement read.

The group argued that consistent investment in education is critical to improving access, quality, and equity across all levels of learning. It noted that the manifesto’s promises, which include infrastructure development, teacher training, and improved learning materials, can only be realized with a strong financial commitment.

Eduwatch further highlighted the broader implications of education investment, pointing out that a robust education budget contributes to national development by building human capital and reducing unemployment.
5
In addition to advocating for increased funding, Mr. Asare called for the convening of a national education conference.
6
He highlighted the importance of creating a platform for dialogue and collaboration among educators, policymakers, and civil society organizations to address pressing challenges and identify effective strategies to achieve Ghana’s education goals.

Haruna Iddrisu, who plays a key role in shaping the opposition’s policy direction, is expected to champion this cause as part of the party’s broader commitment to education reform.

Eduwatch’s appeal adds to the ongoing discourse on prioritizing education in Ghana’s national budget, reinforcing the call for leaders to back their promises with actionable policies and financial resources
