Speaking on the UCook show hosted by Empress Gifty, Harold disclosed that his breakthrough came in 2015 through Tigo’s iconic “Drop That Yam” advertisement.
1
“It was a weird breakthrough. It wasn’t the typical movie role that got me noticed. My moment came through a TV commercial, Drop That Yam, which aired in 2015,” he shared.
2
The ad, which featured prominent names like Mercy Asiedu and Naa Ashorkor, became a pop culture sensation, and Harold’s role in it earned him nationwide recognition.
3
“At the time, I had already done a few commercials and TV series, so people were beginning to connect my face with my name. That commercial just pushed it over the edge and got people really curious about me,” he said.
4
However, Harold was quick to clarify that while the exposure brought widespread popularity, it didn’t translate into financial success.
5
“People would gather in front of my gate just to see me. The popularity was there, but it didn’t reflect in my bank account,” he said with a chuckle. “That’s how our industry works. Even though the commercial was a hit, it didn’t improve my financial situation.”
6
The actor admitted that the disconnect between fame and fortune forced him to take a step back from the limelight for a while.
7
“I had to pull back a bit and distance myself from the public eye. It was overwhelming. You’re seen everywhere, but your pockets don’t match the hype,” he added.
8
Harold’s story serves as a reminder of the complex realities many creatives face—where visibility doesn’t always come with immediate rewards. Yet through it all, he remains grateful for the opportunity that introduced him to the masses and laid the groundwork for the career he continues to build.
