2 mins readApostle Solomon Oduro’s announcement of his divorce from Rev. Charlotte Oduro has reignited debates about the credibility of public figures who offer marital advice while facing personal challenges.

Rev. Charlotte Oduro, a well-known marriage counsellor, has yet to comment on the development. However, her silence has not shielded her from criticism, as many question how someone so vocal about marriage could not sustain her own.
1
In a statement released on February 10, 2025, Apostle Oduro, General Overseer of the Royal Victory Family Church, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the dissolution of their marriage. He stressed that the decision came after three years of separation and multiple reconciliation efforts. Appealing for public understanding, he reaffirmed his commitment to his ministry.

The news has sparked strong reactions from public figures, particularly Ghanaian musician Mzbel and fashion critic Charlie Dior.
3
Mzbel took to social media with a sarcastic remark, writing, “When the marriage counsellor’s marriage is not marriaging... lol,” a statement that many interpreted as a jab at the irony of Rev. Charlotte Oduro’s situation.
4
Charlie Dior, however, went beyond sarcasm, criticizing Rev. Oduro’s teachings on marriage. In a detailed post, he argued that her advice is often one-sided, placing excessive responsibility on women to maintain their marriages while offering little accountability for men.
5
“I really dislike how she speaks with such authority about what women need to do in marriage, as if there’s a one-size-fits-all formula,” Dior stated. “It’s always about how women should behave, what they should tolerate, and how they should cater to their husbands, but there’s barely any accountability or guidance directed at men.”
6
He further argued that such teachings reinforce outdated gender roles and put unnecessary pressure on women, calling for more balanced and realistic conversations about marriage in today’s world.
7
The Oduros, once celebrated as marriage counsellors, had already faced public scrutiny since their split, which was officially announced on February 10. Many had begun to question the credibility of their marital advice, given their own personal struggles.
8
With the news now public, opinions remain divided—some sympathize with the couple’s challenges, while others see the situation as a reflection of why marriage counselling should be more inclusive and realistic in its approach.
