The government plans to borrow GH¢4.262 billion in its final auction for 2024.
In the last treasury bills auction on December 13, 2024, there was a small oversubscription, meaning more money was offered than needed. On December 21, 2024, the auction attracted a total of GH¢5.404 billion in bids.
Results released on December 23, 2024, show that the government secured GH¢4.028 billion for the 91-day treasury bill. It also accepted GH¢867.34 million for the 182-day bill and GH¢508.61 million for the 365-day bill.
For comparison, the government raised GH¢8.2 billion in the previous week's auction.
The interest rates set for this latest auction were 27.85% for the 91-day bill, 28.57% for the 182-day bill, and 29.95% for the 365-day bill.
Treasury bills have become the government's main way of borrowing money because it can’t easily borrow from international markets.
