Each of the new trucks is equipped with a 60-ton flatbed trailer. Of the 15, three trucks are rated at 400 horsepower, while the other 12 boast 430 horsepower. The equipment acquisition aligns with GPHA’s strategy to maintain Tema Port’s standing as a leading logistics hub in West Africa.

“These trucks will significantly enhance our cargo handling capacity, which is vital for maintaining Tema Port’s position as a key maritime hub in West Africa,” said Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, Director General of GPHA. He emphasized the need for proper upkeep, adding, “An effective maintenance culture is crucial to extending the trucks' lifespan and supporting efficient trade facilitation.”

Tema Port Director, Mr. Tebon Zuma Esq., praised the safety and environmental features of the new fleet. “These trucks are more than vehicles—they reflect our commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction,” he stated. He further revealed, “An additional 15 trucks would arrive within three weeks,” and highlighted that the full expansion would include 100 trucks and more than a dozen reach stackers by year’s end.

In addition to new equipment, Zuma noted that GPHA is prioritizing training to ensure the trucks are professionally maintained: “We are investing in continuous staff training to ensure the new fleet is maintained to the highest professional standards.”

He also expressed appreciation to GPHA’s internal teams and financial partner, saying, “I commend the procurement and engineering teams, as well as Ecobank Ghana, for their roles in realising the project.”

Industry observers have welcomed the development, citing it as a timely intervention that will ease port congestion and improve the flow of goods across the supply chain.
