5th National Development Forum slated for 24th September

NDPC

The National Development Planning Commission is organising its fifth National Development Forum (NDF) to discuss land governance in Ghana and the prognosis for Ghana’s land use and spatial planning.

The Commission recognizes land as a critical governance issue and a resource of great importance. The country’s development efforts, such as provision of infrastructure, housing, food security, water, energy and the sustainability of natural resources have a clear connection to land.

In a press statement issued by the Commission on Thursday evening, the forum will be held at the British Council, Accra, on Tuesday, 24 September 2019, from 5:30pm-7:30pm.

The forum which is open to the general public is one of the development dialogues initiated by the Commission in May 2019, to afford stakeholders and the general public opportunities to discuss pertinent topics which need attention in the country.

The theme for this edition is “Long-term Development Perspective on Land Governance and Ownership in Ghana.”

The keynote address for the upcoming forum will be delivered by Prof. Seth O. Asiama, Department of Land Economy, KNUST, after which there will be questions and answers session with a moderated panel discussion.

The deliberations will consider the state of land access, ownership and administration in Ghana, and lessons from previous and ongoing land reform initiatives.

As Ghana pursues its vision of becoming a solidly developed country at 100 years, it is crucial to promote good land governance and ensure the effective management of land, property and natural resources.
