Erik ten Hag has publicly for the terrible decisions he made during the April 27 match against Tottenham Hotspur.

In front of their own home supporters, Tottenham came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Manchester United.

Spurs supporters were expecting another humiliation after their surrender to Newcastle over the weekend, but Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford set United on their way.

After the break, though, January acquisition Pedro Porro drew one back, and Spurs missed a few good chances to either back level or even go ahead.

With United still leading, ten Hag surprised many by withdrawing Sancho and Cristian Eriksen just after the hour mark.

The two were one of the better performers of the night, with Fred and Anthony MArtial taking their place. 10 minutes later, the Dutch tactician followed it up with another dubious change, withdrawing Aaron Wan Bissaka for Tyrell Malacia.

Bissaka is one of the best 1 v 1 defenders in the world and the feeling would be, he needs to be on the pitch when you are protecting the lead.

His replacement, Malacia, was culpable for Spurs’ second goal as he allowed Harry Kane with enormous space to lay it out for Heung-min Son on a platter.

However, Ten Hag defended his ideas despite watching his side drop points again due to partly his changes.

“If you have seen the game, you have seen also in the period after half time we lose control in the game and I prepared the subs already before the 2-1 and you could see that goal coming.

“With Fred, you bring energy, one who can win the ball. On Sunday, he was brilliant. And with Martial, you bring one who can keep the ball and you can have Rashford, Antony and Bruno make runs behind and that was the idea.” as quoted by MEN.
