Nigerian music sensation Divine Ikubor, widely recognized as Rema, achieved a significant milestone by winning the inaugural Best Afrobeats award at the MTV Video Music Awards in Newark, New Jersey, USA, on Tuesday.
Rema secured this accolade for his collaborative work with international star Selena Gomez on the track titled ‘Calm Down.’
Among the nominees for the Best Afrobeats award were Burna Boy’s ‘It’s Plenty,’ Davido feat. Musa Key’s ‘Unavailable,’ Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush,’ Libianca’s ‘People,’ Wizkid feat. Ayrra Starr’s ‘2 Sugar,’ and Fireboy DML’s ‘Bandana.’ Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ emerged as the standout winner.
