Former England captain, Rio Ferdinand has included Ghana’s great Michael Essien in his top five English Premier League African Players of all time.

Following Sadio Mane’s transfer from Liverpool to German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, there has been craze about whether he leaves as one of the best African players of all time or not.

According to ex-Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand, he has no doubt the Senegal captain is amongst the very best.

In a post on his Twitter page, Rio Ferdinand gives special mentions to Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure, as well as Ghana’s Michael Essien.

“In no particular order; [Didier] Drogba, Salah, Mane, Yaya Toure, [Michael] Essien,” Ferdinand posted on Twitter.

In another post, the retired football now turned sportscaster shares, “Raaaaaa this is hard yenoooo. [Riyad] Mahrez won some trophies. I loved Jay-Jay [Okocha] also… mad player.”
