Political movement, Economic Fighters League (Fighters) has called on all workers to unite and fight the common enemy responsible for the inequalities in the country.

According to the Economic Fighters League, the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in which the state cannot continuously absorb the needs of the vulnerable in the society for a considerable period of time has exposed the “ills” in Ghana’s socio-economic structure.

“On the occasion of Workers Day, the Economic Fighters League sends its deep regards and appreciation to the workers of Ghana and Africa. We salute your sacrifices and hard work. In these desperate times of the COVID-19 pandemic, everybody is a witness to the sacrifice that workers are making,” portions of the statement released by the political movement to celebrate Ghanaian workers read.

The statement signed by Hardi Yakubu, the Fighter-General of the League added that “while most are sacrificing their livelihoods, some are at the frontlines sacrificing their very lives to contain the pandemic. Our nurses, doctors, laboratory technicians, midwives, psychiatrists, pharmacists, etc deserve commendation for their heroic sacrifices.”

In their view, the current situation has made clear what they had been saying, that “unless the state is recalibrated to serve the needs of everyone, no one is safe. The current system where only a few have access to the best quality health care and education is unsustainable. Workers must learn the most important lesson from what we are witnessing. The only solution to our predicament is to unite and fight the common enemy which is the system.”
