Host of Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana show, Paul Adom-Otchere has reacted to claims by investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni that he (Paul) peddled lies against him while he was investigating Zoomlion.
Manasseh, in a statement last week, accused Paul Adom-Otchere of peddling malicious lies against him that he had requested $100,000 from Zoomlion to kill a story.
But reacting to the claims on his show last night, April 22, 2020, Mr. Adom-Otchere described the $100,000 bribe allegation made against him by Manasseh Azure Awuni as a figment of the latter’s imagination.
According to him, he only called Manasseh to ask if he indeed made certain demands from the CEO of Jospong Group.
Adom-Otchere said he, together with others were called into a meeting with Jospong and Manasseh. But the investigative journalist made him (Paul) and the others walk out because he (Manasseh) insisted the meeting with Jospong was exclusive, hence didn’t need others to be present.
Giving details of what happened, the host of the Good Evening Ghana show said “It’s not true, that allegation is totally untrue…the story is that this investigative journalist who was investigating the Jospong Group of Companies requested as part of his investigation to see the CEO of Jospong. That request was granted and I was called to be in that meeting and other people were called to be in the meeting as well so there will be a transparent meeting and the discussion will be fruitful…”
“…but when he arrived he sort of said something new. He said he wanted to have the meeting exclusively with the leader of the group…And then I called him up and said since you left the meeting there are rumours that you have made certain demands on the man that you met and he [Manasseh] said to me that it’s not true,” Paul said.
According to Paul, Manasseh called him back to ask if the money was $100,000 but he (Paul) said he wasn’t aware of the figure but was only told the latter requested an amount from Zoomlion.
“I told him and one of his colleagues at Joy FM that this is what I’m hearing and then he called me back and asked me that this money I’m talking about is a $100,000. I said to him I don’t know. He first mentioned the figure and I heard from him for the first time. I don’t know anything about the figure but I heard he has made some requests on the man. So that was how the conversation ended,” he revealed.
