The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Forestry Commission, Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has revealed that his outfit has arrested 158 chainsaw operators and seized 158 chainsaw machines.

According to him, his outfit has waged a “war” against chainsaw operators who illegally destroy the forest reserves for their personal gains by indiscriminately felling trees.

At the launch of the 7th Forestry week and Greening Ghana Day in commemoration of International Day of Forests which was attended by MyNewsGh.com, he revealed that government is currently employing 80,000 youth to help in the Greening Ghana Project which is focused on helping the nation get its forest back.

He added that about 54,000 pieces of wood have also been seized from these illegal operators sounding a word of caution to chainsaw operators in the country to desist from engaging in illegal logging or incur his wrath as he will deal ruthlessly with them

Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie was hopeful that the Greening Ghana Project will go a long way to restore the country’s forest to it original state noting that it will transform the landscape of the country.
